Stress Load and the Body
Stress is not just something you feel in your thoughts. It also shows up in your body.
For truck drivers, stress often comes from many directions at once:
traffic
schedule pressure
delays
poor sleep
financial pressure
time away from home
uncertainty
long hours
lack of control over the day
When stress happens once in a while, the body can usually recover. But when stress becomes constant, the body can start living in a near-continuous state of tension.
That affects:
blood pressure
sleep quality
patience
focus
cravings
digestion
recovery
energy
mood
This is why HaulWell™ talks about stress load instead of just stress.
Stress load is the amount of pressure your body is carrying over time. Even if you are used to it, your body still pays a price when the load stays high for too long.
Common body signs of stress load may include:
muscle tension
jaw clenching
poor sleep
feeling wired but tired
irritability
shallow breathing
headaches
stomach upset
low patience
racing thoughts
trouble settling down
The goal is not to remove all stress. That is not realistic. The goal is to notice when your body is carrying too much and begin using small ways to lower the load.
That may include:
taking a few slower breaths before reacting
giving yourself a pause before eating
stepping out of “go mode” when you can
noticing what pushes you over the edge
building small moments of reset into the day
What this week is about
Understanding that daily pressure affects the body and learning to pay attention to how that load is showing up.
Your focus this week
Start noticing how stress shows up in your body.
Ask yourself:
What does stress feel like in me?
When do I feel most overloaded?
What helps me come down, even a little?
Takeaway
Stress load is real body wear and tear. Noticing it earlier gives you a better chance to protect your margin.
